What car lasts the longest?

Which vehicle should I buy if I want the longest life out of it?

Adam answers:

There is no absolute answer to this, largely because the quality of automobiles in general has gotten so high. A few years ago, the consensus would have been to buy Japanese cars over all others if you wanted a long life span for your car. These days the answer is murkier.

That said, I looked at various dependability studies and came up with this list of cars known to have a long life in several categories. This list takes into account models that have existed for a while and have been shown to be dependable, thus predicting that these models will continue to have long lives. Models that didn’t exist 5 years ago obviously don’t make the list. Use this as your starting point if long-term reliability is highly important to you.
