Q. Will Medicare pay for me to have a mobility scooter?
Maybe. In order to have Medicare pay for your scooter, you will need a doctor’s written order that you actually need a mobility scooter for use inside your home. Note that this does not mean that a scooter would make your life easier when you are outdoors — you must need a scooter to function in your home in order to get Medicare to pay. The standard is a high one — see this Medicare document for more information.
If you are approved for payment, Medicare will usually pay 80% of the approved amount, after you have met the Part B deductible. You then pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount.
