Do I qualify for Virginia food stamps?

Q. How do I know if I qualify for food stamps in Virginia?

Adam answers:

I am assuming you live in Virginia, which would be the first qualification. The second step would be to look at your income and how many people are in your household. Below we outline roughly how much you can make and still be eligible for the SNAP / food stamp program in Virginia:

  • If you are just 1 person, you may qualify if you make $1276 or less per month.
  • If your household has 2 people, you qualify if household income is $1726 or less per month.
  • If your household has 3 people, household income must be $2177 or less per month.
  • If your household has 4 people, household income must be $2628 or less.
  • If your household has 5 people, household income must be $3078 or less.
  • If your household has 6 people, household income must be $3529 or less.
  • If there are more than 6, see this chart for more guidance.

Note that income is the most important guideline, but if you are between 18 and 50 and are able to work, your food stamp benefits may be limited to only 3 months in a 3-year period. Use the Virginia food stamp screening tool to figure out if you personally are eligible for food stamps.
